It’s National Play in Hospital Week, and I’m celebrating with children’s charity Starlight by raising awareness of how important it is to be able to still have fun and play while in hospital.
Starlight’s research shows that taking part in play in hospital, or while you wait for doctor appointments, helps to reduce anxiety and keep us calm, which can make treatment easier and quicker. On top of that, dedicated staff called health play specialists and other NHS workers who champion play are there to create play and fun with us in hospital, which may take away the need for sedation. How amazing is that!
