When you hold the egg close to the flame, it gets covered in soot. Soot repels water, similar to oil. When we put our sooty egg in the water, it creates a small air bubble around it. This bubble reflects light, and makes the egg look like it’s made of silver or ice! Once you take the egg out, it will just be a soggy egg.
Water is great to experiment with because it can do lots of things! It’s exciting to see what happens when you combine things - like soot and an eggshell with water. You’ll never know what will happen!
