In this fun science craft video we're making DIY kinetic sand. Now, we've tried several kinetic sand recipes before this one and by far it produced the best kinetic sand that lasted for weeks in a baggie. It was so soft to play, felt exactly like kinetic sand and was moldable.
Other recipes we tried initially produced a wet sand substance that could be molded, but completely dried out into regular sand by the morning. So, if you're looking for the best homemade kinetic sand recipe, look no further.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE DIY KINETIC SAND:
- 1 tblsp of cornstarch
- 1 cup of white sand
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/4 tspn of dish soap
- Baby oil
- Acrylic paint in whatever colors you'd like
- 3 or 4 pinches of slime (1 pinch measured 1/4 tspn)
Watch the video for the exact instructions, but very important to remember: YOU ONLY NEED A LITTLE BIT OF WATER. Depending on the grain of your sand and the humidity in your environment, you may not need ALL your wet mixture. So put a little water in at a time.
If you're sand feels to wet and sticky, add more squirts of baby oil and more sand. If you're kinetic sand is too dry, add a little more water. Consider the pieces of slime like a starter to get your kinetic sand moving.
Have fun!
