Neighbor Dina has come over to play with the little rhinos. She has a roll of blue paper and a bucket of paint supplies. Gathered in Noah’s room, the children decide they are going to paint the bottom of the ocean floor. Noah paints seaweed. Ela paints an octopus. And Ron starts to paint an elaborate seahorse – that is, until Bobo walks across his work and smears it. Ron was so proud of his painting. Now he’s so furious that he tears the paper. Noah steps in and teaches his little brother a sensory calming activity called “finger breathing.” Combined with slow breathing, this exercise helps Ron feel better. Once Ron’s emotions are soothed, Dina uses tape and paint to mend the torn seahorse and turn it into a new, and even better, red crab.
